What’s the reason for selling the yacht?
Since 2005 we have made many sailing trips with our ship Bess. Initially in the Netherlands (IJsselmeer, Wadden Sea, North Sea). Soon the trips became longer and longer (Scandinavia, Atlantic Round and Great Britain Round) and eventually to Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Bess always got us safely to our destinations.

We have achieved our dreams and we sailed where we wanted to go. Meanwhile, the long sea sailing voyages are starting to weigh more physically and we need more time to recover from a few nights at sea. Now it\'s time to get started with other plans. And it\'s great if we can sell our ship to sailors who want to enjoy it as much as we do.
Where have you been sailing (sailing area)?
We were able to see and sail a lot: IJsselmeer, Wadden Sea, North Sea, Atlantic Ocean.

Since when are you the owner of the yacht? How many owners?
We are the second owner of this ship since 2005.
Has the yacht been without any accident?
The hull was repainted in 2007. Now - after 14 years of sailing - we have scratches on the hull which we repared locally. In the Simon Stevin lock (Den Oever, Netherlands) a fishing vessel hit our SB rubbing strake. This was repaired in the yard of Kooi Makkum (the Netherlands).
During our oceancrossing from the Caribbean to the Azores (2011) we had to deal with big waves and strong headwinds (30 knots) for two weeks. This has led to a crack in the bulkhead on starboard side. After returning home, this was investigated by the designers Dick Koopmans Jr. and Paul Matthijsen from Sentijn (Sentijn 37IQ). Subsequently, this bulkhead was adequately repaired and reinforced on their advice.
What can you tell about the sailing characteristics?
The Sentijn is an excellent sailing ship. The steering wheel can be operated with one finger in almost all circumstances. The windvane (and the autopilot that can be connected to it) reacts smoothly and quickly. The lines, sheets and winches are easily accessible. Bess has a flat deck with plenty of walking space. The haleyards are operated from the mast.

The Sentijn has a low center of gravity, a low coachroof and a heavy finkeel. So the boat lies quite steady in the water. We sail doublehanded and alternate at night; one is on watch, the other sleeps. Bess sails dry and the splash water is well drained via the flat deck. That\'s why we don\'t have a spray hood. We always have a beautiful all-round view from the cockpit.
How is the yacht maintained, are there any invoices available concerning the maintenance?
Since we became the owner of Bess, we have had every year maintenance carried out. An overview of the maintenance:

- thorough sanding and re-priming of the entire underwater hull (2006)
- painted hull (2006)

Was the yacht regularly ashore during winterperiods? Every year?
The ship is preferably taken out of the water and stored on the hard in the winter. We always check and maintain the diesel engine, change the oil, the filters, the impeller and the anodes. In the Netherlands we have the mast stored in the hall during the winter. Abroad, the mast remained on the ship during the winter.
Other remarks:
We have prepared and equipped Bess for long voyages at sea. That is why we opted for a sturdy ocean sail with an extra deep third reef. We also want to sail as energy-efficiently as possible. We have equipped Bess with a windvane, with LED lighting inside and outside, a foot pump for water in addition to the hydrofoor. In all years at sea we have rarely had any problems.
