What’s the reason for selling the yacht?

Time for another exciting new challenge!

Where have you been sailing (sailing area)?

Markermeer, IJsselmeer, Wadden Sea and North Sea (from France to Norway).

Since when are you the owner of the yacht? How many owners?

Second owner since 2019. Due to personal circumstances, the first owner was unable to use the yacht, allowing us to purchase her in as-new condition in 2019.

Has the yacht been without any accident?

A few minor incidents, including a dent in the hull caused by another vessel while she was in her berth. All damage was professionally repaired.

What can you tell about the sailing characteristics?

The J/112E is a true performance cruiser: fast and responsive, yet stable, predictable and confidence-inspiring. Narwal gets moving easily even in light winds, points high and efficiently upwind, and provides excellent feedback through the helm.

As the wind increases, she remains beautifully balanced and the sail plan is easy to reduce. Even in heavy seas and demanding conditions, we have always experienced her as steady on course, controllable and safe. She gives her crew the confidence to keep going and continue performing.

Despite her racing potential, Narwal is not only suited to a full racing crew. She is also manageable and enjoyable to sail with a small crew, solo or on a relaxed family cruise. A yacht that combines speed and active sailing pleasure with calm, control and comfort.

How is the yacht maintained, are there any invoices available concerning the maintenance?

Yes, the yacht has always been maintained in excellent condition.

Was the yacht regularly ashore during winterperiods? Every year?

Yes. The yacht has been stored ashore during the winter and, each spring, has been polished, antifouled and given an engine service.

What is the boat name and the (special) meaning of this name?

Narwal — an Arctic whale species, also known as the “unicorn of the sea.”

Its exceptionally long tusk bears a resemblance to the yacht’s long bowsprit.

As a yacht name, Narwal evokes associations with:

strength and speed;
northern seas and adventure;
something rare and distinctive;
elegance, with a sharp and recognisable appearance.

Other remarks:

When we set out to find a true performance cruiser, we did not want to compromise. We were looking for a yacht with a proven track record at the top of ORC and IRC racing, while still offering the comfort needed for family cruising. The J/112E turned out to be exactly the right choice.

With a crew that was initially still relatively inexperienced, we achieved podium finishes in offshore races from the very beginning. In a short period of time, we built an impressive record of results with Narwal. Just as valuable, however, are the memories of family cruises: weekends away, longer holidays and anchoring in remote bays in Norway, with every comfort on board.

We have sailed Narwal with great affection and have always treated and maintained her with the utmost care. We hope she will find a new owner who will take her on many new adventures: as a competitive racing yacht, as a fast and comfortable cruiser, or once again as the special combination of both.
